Rumors, facts, rumors, facts, who knows anymore. One thing we do know, is no one should thinking Xavier Henry heading to Memphis just yet. TheShiver.com has learned over the past few days that the Henry recruitment is far from over. By many, Henry was rumored to be a lock, or at the very least, a heavy lean towards Memphis. That no longer seems to be the case, and it might be the exact opposite after this weekend.

One thing we know, the Henry recruitment has certainly been a wild one. Buzz has been flying around about both Kansas and Memphis, but the Henry camp has done a great job of keeping everything close to the vest. Will he commit to Kansas next week? I certainly don’t know. However, I do know that the Jayhawks are in a much better position today then they have been in recent weeks.

I hope you have all enjoyed the roller coaster so far, and the ride may not be over.

    Please, Please, Please!!!!!!

    Nice work fellas

  2. I know says:

The decision has already been made

  3. Timmy says:

    To where? Made to Kansas?

  4. chalmersfor3 says:

I know that he made contact with the KU staff this past weekend. Can you confirm it from anyone you know, Shiver? I would say, at a minimum, it certainly doesn’t appear that KU is still very much in the mix.

  5. chalmersfor3 says:

Duh… it certainly DOES appear that KU is still very much in the mix. I have a recruiting anticipation fever going on and it’s seriously clouding my thoughts!

  6. admin says:

Chalmers, I think antidote for that fever is more COWBELL.

  7. chalmersfor3 says:

Hey. I put my pants on one leg at a time.

  8. keith says:

I thought X was going to announce today????

  9. keith says:

    What happened?

  10. Harleyhawk says:

Once he was in the auto accident timing of the announcement was pushed back about a week. He is to confer with family this next Wed. then make an call, most likly Friday the 7th.

  11. keith says:

Appreciate the info. Nothing against Kansas but, I hope he signs with Memphis. Go Tigers!

  12. Harleyhawk says:

If he is smart it’s KU baby! His Dad knew it and so will he!

  13. keith says:

Let me run this by you. Now remember, I`m just a fan with no inside info on the recruiting battle for X. All I know is what I read. Why I think he`ll end up at Memphis…..Brother C.J. is at Memphis which means parents can see both sons play at the same time(less traveling) ….It appears to me that KU is recruiting other shooting guards a lot harder than Memphis is, especially Snaer….We all know X is going pro after 1 year and while he is in Memphis, he`ll be associating with NBA people that come through town all year long…I think the brothers will want to play together, even if for 1 year….FedEx Forum is an awesome arena to play in, might make him feel closer to the NBA. Some of these might be a little far fetched, just my opinion. Would enjoy hearing some KU fans thoughts on this.

  14. Harleyhawk says:

If I have to explain it you just don’t get it! It’s kind of like riding a cycle….if you don’t do it you will never understand it! X went to late night in the phog! There is nothing like it…I understand Coach Cal is smoke and mirrors but we are 100% phog. Kind of like a Porsche…there is no substitute!

  15. keith says:

I`ve never been to the phog so maybe I don`t get it. It the phog is absolutely the best, why haven`t Henry, Snaer, Wall, or Cheek commited yet???? I can see why KU fans feel that way, doesn`t mean everybody else does.

  16. KUFanatic93 says:

Keith – Go look at the top 10 rookies so far this year on ESPN.com. You will see 3 KU players. I agree that Memphis has a lot of superficials for X but I think X wants to be a part of something bigger than himself.

  17. keith says:

By the way. When Self leaves KU, the first door KU will be knocking on will be Coach Cal`s.

  18. keith says:

Fanatic93- I`don`t know X so you might be right about that. Time will tell. By the way, thanks for Darrell Arthur, the Grizzlies and the fans really like him. I didn`t like him during championship game but do now.

  19. fred says:

“By the way. When Self leaves KU, the first door KU will be knocking on will be Coach Cal`s.”

Zero chance. They didn’t even consider Cal after Roy left.

As for your comment about Henry and others not committing yet, it has nothing to do with them not wanting to pull the trigger. They’re all waiting on Henry’s decision. With little room left on KU for next season, they want to see what things will look like. If Henry commits to KU, Snaer, Cheek or Wall would have to fight hard for minutes.

  20. KUFanatic93 says:

I don’t think Self will leave anytime soon. Just signed a big deal after getting offered big time money from Okie St. He may go to the NBA someday but I don’t see it happening for a while. Cal got his start in coaching at KU. That is the reason why you guys are in on X in the first place. Not sure if KU would go for Cal or not. I honestly don’t think he would have the freedom at a program like KU that he does at UM.

  21. KUFanatic93 says:

Wall wouldn’t have to fight for minutes. He is to big of a talent to fight for minutes anywhere. Not sure about Snaer/Cheek. Will know more after we see how good Releford, Taylor and the rest of the backcourt are in action STARTING TUESDAY!!!

  22. chalmersfor3 says:

I find it interesting that people believe that Memphis is more of a gateway to the NBA than KU. Not saying that the Fedex Forum locker rooms aren’t a little more “pro” than KU but the television exposure alone tells me that you simply get more face time being a Jayhawk. I watched Memphis a few times on CSTV but it’s a not an impressive network and it was tough to watch at times. I loved watching Memphis play but the network leaves a lot to be desired.

Self had 5 players drafted in the NBA and it was his 1st senior class at Kansas. If I’m a student athlete looking for a payday, I’m probably leaning towards KU. Coach Cal is such a good salesman that he makes the decision very difficult so I’ll give him props for that alone.

  23. wayne says:

pretty sure he would like 2 be # 1 pick. Derrick Rose influences decisions. write it down. nobody really wants to play in college, just go to the nba. If tyreke evans go top 5 in the draft, recruits will want to come memphis. NBA ready. theshiver is a bias website. they make every recruit seem like they want to come kansas. xavier henry will always say he’s 50/50 in his interviews always. where do you get your information from shiver? John wall will go to North carolina state

I have been following this recruit very closely. I can’t believe how much of a finatic I am with these top recruits. When Kansas won it all last year, I haven’t felt emotions like that in a long time. I was there in ’88 when the Hawks won it all…right there in Lawrence hugging strangers, going up to cars and high fiving people. It was one big happy family. I was blown away when we came back and won it, and I was trying to show the positive confidence on the outside, and wilting on the inside…..then it happened. The three by Chalmers…..it’s good! Unbelievable. I’m in Dallas Texas, and I bleed Crimson and Blue. I’ve never been more excited. I sure hope Henry signs with us, but if he doesn’t, it definitely sounds like either Snaer or Cheek might. Also, we have to remember Barnes in 2010, he’s ranked as a top level recruit. I have a very good feeling based on reading everything that the internet puts out….believe me, I’ve searched every site with all the rumors. With Taylor and Cheek being close friends, that has to be a major plus. I do believe KU late nite put a little indecision in Henry’s mind. That’s great for us. Thanks for all the posts, I read every one of them.

  25. Anonymous says:

Guys excuse me for my myriad of thoughts rolled alltogether. I got a little excited. We are getting 4 top level recruits….that’s my final answer!

  26. keith says:

I don`t necessarily believe that Memphis is more of a gateway to the NBA than KU or any other top level program. I think the facts prove that. I do believe that when a recruit realizes that he`ll be surrounded by a NBA atmosphere year round, whether it`s Coach Cal bringing in NBA players and coaches to his camps, general managers and players of NBA teams in town dropping in on Tiger practices or sharing the same facilities as the pros, he can`t help but be impressed. These are all recruiting plusses, whether you`re a one and done or a four year player. Doesn`t mean all players will come here but, it does increase your chances. With that being said, I`m not sold on the fact that one and dones look at the tradition of a school when deciding. I think their primary goal is to put themselves in the best position to get to the next level. Go Tigers!

  27. Shiver says:

If you recall, I came out and said that Henry was Memphis bound. At the time, I had great info on that. In the last few days, things have changed dramatically. To keep my contacts, I can’t report everything, but I can give the readers enough so that they know things have changed. It can certainly change again, which would surprise no one, but that is how it stands as of now.

  28. Belfast says:

Just wondering, when you say, Shiver, “To keep my contacts, I can’t report everything, but I can give the readers enough so that they know things have changed,” what exactly have you given me, your reader, so that I know things have changed? All you say is you “have info”. What does that mean? There’s nothing specific.

  29. Shiver says:

Sure there is. For those that thought it was all over and he was going to Memphis, that doesn’t appear to be the case any longer. The ‘info’ that I was given, was that it WAS the case, but things have changed over the past week and it sweems to be advantage Kansas right now.

  30. Belfast says:

I’m not attacking, just asking for clarification. I appreciate your response. But what I want to know is what has changed? Xavier’s mind? How can anyone on the inside have access to his thoughts? What I’m getting at is, without giving up your source, what specific information was given or acquired by you or your source to indicate that Xavier’s mind has changed? Was there a phone call, another meeting? Just saying words like “info” and “things have changed” is rather meaningless, is speculative at best. I could say the same thing.

  31. Jack Stack says:

Belfast – it was late night that sealed the deal. Before his visit there was a growing interest in KU. His late night experience sealed the deal.

Do you really think he wants to play and share the spot light with his older brother? I say that may have hurt Memphis.

KU will sign 2 of 3 from Henry/Snaer/Cheek. With Robinson signing Kansas does not need any more bigs and wants guards and wings.

Henry is the key. Once he commits a chain will follow. I believe Cheek is next and Snaer is a back up in case KU does not get both.

  32. Jack Stack says:

And it is still possible for KU to get John Wall, He is not going to NC State but Duke is now in the picture. Duke is getting in late but Coach K could keep him near home. KU signing other guards will not affect Wall. He is the top PG and will play and star and whatever school he goes to.

  33. Belfast says:

Jack Stack, I hear you. But I’m really wondering what specific info Shiver brings to the table. I mean, what you said, that it was Late Night that sealed the deal, that’s just speculation on your part. And perfectly fine. But it’s as meaningless as me saying I Late Night did the exact opposite, it showed Henry that KU’s a team program and he wants to be the man. It’s just baseless talk. What I want to know is what concrete evidence did Shiver hear that Henry’s wavering on Memphis. It’s pretty straight forward. Shiver doesn’t have to reveal its source to simply say, for example, “My source heard that Henry called Coach Self to say that Kansas was still in play,” or something like that.

  34. Tom says:

Belfast, I`m somewhat curious like you as to what might have happened. Henry has been leaning heavily towards Memphis for months according to Shiver and now in the span of a week he is leaning towards Kansas.Hasn`t Henry been to Late Night previously? This recruiting battle has been going on for at least a couple of years so the thought of growing interest now and Late Night seem a little far fetched. I

  35. Tom says:

I wondering if Kansas is applying a full court press or did Memphis just screw it up somehow? By the way, no matter where Henry goes, he won`t be sharing the spotlight with anybody so you can throw the brother reason out as well. I`m just trying not to get my hopes up to high.

  36. Anonymous says:

Advantage Jayhawks is good enough to get me through the weekend. Noone seems to be saying anything right now on any of the other recruiting sites, so we’ll have to wait and see.

  37. Camacho says:

Belfast, we appreciate your comments, but we must tread a fine line. We are not going to sell out our sources so you can sleep at night. Let me be clear, a few weeks ago, Memphis was in the drivers seat. In the last week, things have changed and that bodes well for KU. That is according to Shiver’s sources. My sources were reporting this a little bit sooner, and it was confirmed to me shortly after late night.

Lets see what happens later this week, but I like where KU stands right now.

  38. wayne says:

no way John Wall goes to Kansas after johnson commited. these dudes really don’t want to go to college just jump into the NBA after high school. I’m not a memphis fan, but if i were a prospect i would rather much play in a weak conference and show up in the NCAA tournament and become a # 1 pick in th draft. hint… Derrick Rose. Like i said, in all the interviews i see done with xavier henry, he says he 50/50. how do you know hes giving a edge to kansas when never gives up who he is leaning towards. BIAS WEBSITE!!!

  39. Anonymous says:

Wayne…just because he doesn’t tell the media anything, doesn’t mean that the coaches haven’t received word or have new updates. Of course it’s possible that the Shiver has an inside source. Although, nothing is concrete until Henry announces his choice. Things can, and I’m sure do change many times. So, we all just need to take the information they give us, and quit pushing for more. I’m sure they’re telling us all they can, for now!

  40. wayne says:

if we jayhawks lose henry, i’m bashing every story theshiver post.

  41. Tom says:

I agree with you Wayne, John Wall will not come to Kansas. Two players rated that high at the same position do not end up at the same school. And you won`t see two players as good as Wall and Henry at the same school either, whether it`s Kansas or Memphis. These two studs want a good supporting cast around them, not another stud playing next to them. As for Henry, there is still about a week left before he announces which tells me he could change his mind 4 more times. Cal has proven he`s a pretty good recruiter so you can never count him out.

  42. Camacho says:

Wayne, you are a gem. Of course, if Henry does chose Kansas, you will spend the rest of your days praising every story is on theshiver., right? You are being ridiculous. We could change our format and make this a pay site. Would that suit you better?

  43. wayne says:

i would pay just to bash your stories if we lose henry or i would pay to kiss your asses if we get him. anyway it’s your website do what you want to do. rivals do it, so why can’t shiver do it.

  44. KUFanatic93 says:

“pretty sure he would like 2 be # 1 pick. Derrick Rose influences decisions. write it down. nobody really wants to play in college, just go to the nba. This is what Memphis fans really think. I think the majority of KU fans LOVE college basketball and see it as superior to the NBA. Maybe that is because OUR PLAYERS do LOVE to play college basketball and don’t see it as just a stepping stone to the NBA. When the NBA introduces our players, they say “from the University of Kansas…(fill in the blank)” and not “Derrick Rose from the city of Chicago!!” BTW… who has 3 of the top 10 rookies in the NBA this year according to ESPN? That would be KU.

  45. wayne says:

KU Fanatic think about what you just wrote. Derrick Rose is an example of a player who didn’t want to go to college just go straight to the nba. Thats why he probably went to a team in a weak C-USA conference. I’m not a memphis fan so i don’t care if D. Rose announced that he’s from China. If college players really liked kansas why would Chalmers and Authur leave. Go ahead and say it “because they won a ring”. No, they got enough hype for the Nba. Just like every basketball player who left early and got drafted. Why do you think North Carolina players stayed in college, because they got exposed by KU. It’s all about getting money, not for the love of college. If I were a recruit, i would have signed me a agent right away to play overseas, then go to the NBA. Then i would think about college

  46. Tom says:

KU Fanatic……As a Tiger fan,I love the Tigers more than the Grizzlies as do a lot of Tiger fans. I find college ball much more appealing than the NBA. I realize not all agree with this including college players. And this would include players from Kansas, UCLA and UNC. I believe players that stay for less than 4 years are far more interested in playing for the big bucks. If a player stays for 3 years, more than likely he wasn`t good enough to go before that. There are exceptions though. I realize you love your Jayhawks but, college is a stepping stone to the NBA for those with the talent to play at that level….including the players at Kansas.

  47. KUFanatic93 says:

It is obvious that almost all great prospects want to play in the NBA. It is my opinion that playing at Kansas shapes these kids and is much more than just a stepping stone to the NBA. You could hear it from the recruits who KU and UM are competing for. When they got done with the KU visits it was “it just felt like home there, they are like a family, Self told me that I would have to work for everything, I am not going to be assured minutes without effort, ect…”

When you hear the kids come back from working with Cal it is “he promised me that I would be the star, I would be the centerpiece of the offence, he will showcase my talents, ect”

Why do so many KU players (now in the NBA) come back to Lawrence, Kansas? It is because they have a love for the school and the program. I don’t see the same thing going on in Memphis. I see, I will show off your talent and get you a better pick in the draft. Who from Memphis has actually even been very productive in the NBA though? I think CDR and Rose will be but not many others.

  48. Wayne says:

I guess thats you’re bias opinion. Players just recently started going to the Nba from Memphis. Give both sides of the story before you post. Anyway I recall Penny Hardaway just gave memphis a 1 million dollar donation to memphis. I see you posted in red, so i guess that means you work the shiver. I’m not a memphis fan, but a jayhawk fan. This just adds to my argument that the shiver is an unreliable source for recruitment. I will just stick to rivals.

  49. JoeHaWK says:

Right now I would say that everything is looking good for Kansas. With Carl Henry’s comments the other day about Xavier wanting to be at Kansas but also wanting to play with his brother, I read that in Kansas’ favor. I think If the X man was going to commit to Memphis it would have happened already, I really believe that this process has been lengthened due to the great deal of respect that X and his father have for Coach Cal. While this may have been a hard decision for X, I am not sure that it was ever really that close between the two schools. I could be reading this all wrong, but I don’t think so. I guess we’ll see thursday or friday

  50. Wayne says:

I think it’s more of a case of Carl Henry wanting his son to play for kansas, and xavier wanting to play with his brother at memphis. My opinion. I just believe theshiver fabricates stories when it’s time for commitments. Wait until spring comes, I see a story title called ” John Wall would love to with Johnson” in theshivers future. If kansas don’t get henry, this is a bias website point blank.
